The EdReach contributors hash through the Facebook teacher firing fiasco, brought to you by the great state of Georgia! We also wade through Indiana’s controversial idea about hiring superintendents and educational leaders who have no formal education background. Are there appropriate times where hiring outside of the “Ed” pool can work?

Blog Watch:

We focus on Kristina Dell’s thoughtful and brilliant post in the Daily Beast on the negative effects from the trend to hold your student back from entering kindergarten. If everyone does it- where’s the advantage?

Finally we end on Twitter talk and hand out some of our favorite educators to follow, such as @karlfisch, @riptidef, @larryferlazzo, and @kernkelley . Of course, we explain all of our reasons for doing so.

Last, but not least our the On the Radar tools, like Curatr and the Google Art Project! Check them out, and enjoy the show!

  • Awesome cast guys – Google Art Project is a personal favourite of mine, one that I could really see being taken and transformed into a game of discovery.

I’m CEO of Curatr and I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to review and let others know about us. As you mentioned, we are new (launched a little over a week ago) so we’ve got a path of development in front of us, but we’re keen to get lots of feedback as to which direction that path should go.

The social thing really is a good point you raise. A lot of how we ‘do’ social flies under the radar on a first look. For instance, if you were to explore at the level “above” the Curatr, you’d see that every person in the class has their own gallery, where they can bookmark and contribute their own objects to the classroom. Each person can make their own collections of content and create guides for others to work through it. We also do a question type that we call social response – a student answers a question with a free text option and after they have answered they can see their peers response and give a vote to whoever they thought gave the best response.

Keep the feedback coming and keep the podcasts flowing – a fantastic resource.

    Ben
